Today we start a new feature on our page, a Tri Tip of the Day. We will post tips a couple times a week.
Thanks for today's tip from Bill Ruth.
Now that we are getting out to ride more and everyone is starting to ramp up the time in the saddle, here are a couple of things that will keep you going and not sabotage your effort.
#1 Always carry 2 spare tubes and 3- CO2 cartridges with you (or a pump) If I am going long I will take 3 tubes, I do not want to have to make that call. I actually keep an extra inflator head in my tool bag under my saddle. That little piece of metal that punctures the CO2 cartridge is pretty flimsy and if it breaks there is no way to get the gas into the tire.
#2 I always take my spare tubes out of the box and put them in a zip lock sandwich bag with white flour. The butyl tubes tend to be sticky and this makes it real easy to seat the tire in the wheel and prevent it from getting pinched by the tire bead. The force that the CO2 inflator fills the tire will cause a pinch flat if the tube is not seated correctly.
AND, Do not forget your Road ID and License and Credit Card. I also keep a few dollars and 3 allen wrenches wrapped around my tire irons to cover any emergency.
What you do not want is simple mechanicals to derail your training plans. PREPARE!
